Trending – Seasonal to Year-Round

First & foremost, we wish to thank everyone who has made Storage at The Yard a success! We strive to provide a unique level of service that obviously resonates with those who have experienced our true “Valet Service”. Over the years, we have noticed a dramatic increase in our seasonal clientele transitioning to year-round storage, primarily to protect their investment(s) from the elements and ease of use. More importantly, it adds to a quality recreational experience. We are pleased with the response.

If you are not a year-round client, we urge you to communicate your needs, as we operate on a “first come – first serve” basis and space available. Yes, with the largest indoor facility around, we do fill to capacity and have to turn customers away, placing them on a wait-list. We make no assumptions seasonals will be returning, as equipment is sold, alternative storage or plans occur … – we do not assume. We urge you not to, either. Summer’s Ultraviolet (UV) Wrath

With summer upon us, so is the recreational season! While we encourage our clientele to use and enjoy their recreation vehicles, watercraft …, we also advise them to store them out of UV exposure when not in use.

We see the damages to equipment when it initially arrives; some so severe the repairs or replacements are quite costly. If you reside in Northern California, whether the valley or in the foothills or mountains, UV exposure is the number one cause of serious damage! While some is purely aesthetic in nature, most affects performance and even safety. The latter is particularly apparent in tires, whether a deterioration in flexing or more severely – checking & cracking of the sidewalls. Regardless of the vehicle (coach, 5th wheel, boat trailer …), tire failure is an experience most of us choose to avoid. In the case of coaches & motor-homes, premature replacement is an expensive proposition.

Another unpleasant experience many of our clients remark about is the stale, quite natural odor when they open their RV in preparation for a trip; an odor that remains for an extended period of time. Most remark about the absence of this nuisance when they retrieve their vehicles from an indoor environment. While it occurs at any time of year, it is greatly magnified in summer’s heat.

Ultimately, sidings, paint, moldings, vents, awnings, tires … are all adverselyPhotodegradation affected by photodegradation and photo-oxidation! It is that same source of damage that enhances our pleasure and lives – the sun. Consider storage a dose of sunscreen when you are not enjoying your recreational investments! Seasonals – Why Reserve Space?

Typically, as summer trails off and schools open, we begin receiving inquiries for the winter / off-season storage. Our year-round clients are unaffected.

We have outlined the purpose and process on our Reservations page, with a link to the form. For a quote regarding storage cost, simply fill out the Storage Quote request form. In either case, if you do not hear back from us, and have checked your spam filter, do not hesitate to call; cyber is what it is.

We make every effort to accommodate all patrons, some from other continents and others in the far north – the snowbirds avoiding the winter weather on the first leg of their escape.

We pride ourselves on our efficient use of our facility; however, as large as it is, there is a limit. If you are considering our valet service or already have plans for your storage needs with us, we urge you to visit or simply reserve space. Seasonal “winter storage” reservations open mid September, space available!

We also know, from experience, how quickly storage becomes a concern, particularly following the Labor Day holiday – the end of summer!

Valet Service

We established the “Valet Service” at the onset of our storage operations. Initially, it was directed at providing a personalized service, while protecting your investments. That goal has not changed – to enhance your recreational experience.

As time passed, we discovered several of our patrons had little experience with their equipment, whether RVs, boats … While cognizant of the damage caused by ultraviolet rays, excess heat or winter season’s damage, routine maintenance & operational knowledge was lacking. Some is a mere nuisance, while others are hazardous.

It is for this reason, among others, that we require advanced notice of your planned use! We do a routine, courtesy inspection of your equipment’s road safety, tire inflation being primary. This is particularly critical with coaches running duals! We have seen flats, severe under inflation … upon arrival, any of which is potentially leading to disaster. Tire pressures on any highway vehicle are critical; even more so in summer months. It not only effects handling; in the case of duals, it may lead to an unexpected fire!

Batteries are always an issue, whether due to age or simply parasitic draw. A quick charge takes time if the equipment has been sitting any length of time. The better you communicate in advance of your outing, the better we can help assure you leave in good order.

Some prospective clients, primarily those with coaches, request that they parkCoaches-in-Storage their equipment. For innumerable reasons, that is not feasible. First & foremost, the facility is not some large parking lot. As large as it is, the quarters become tight, filled with equipment of others. We have decades of experience in logistics within the tight confines; experience with a specific facility and protocol that only comes with time. For you to better appreciate the reason for communication, or why only we move or operate equipment within our facility, please note the adjacent images. Yes, we utilize our space efficiently, and with your help, at little inconvenience. If your particular unit is buried, it requires time to stage it for your delivery.

Ultimately, the advanced notice is no different than that which would be required of you if the equipment was parked at your home. The big difference is that we do that which you would have to do, allowing you the luxury of simply enjoying your outing.

In an effort to better serve our clientele, our blog will feature some useful tips to enhance your ownership of recreational investments. Having provided this service for many years, we can safely say we see the many issues that come with ownership.

The blog will address related information that may prove useful in insuring your maximum pleasure, while preserving your investment’s value. We will also offer tips on how best to utilize our “valet” services.
